“I sought out Consuelo Casarotto’s practice recently after badly straining my lower back muscles. It was really debilitating and I felt that I needed some intervention, that it would not just heal on its own. Despite my pain, I was reluctant to pursue the traditional medical approach of getting shuffled around to different specialists, since I was almost certain my problem was muscular.

I was an acupuncture neophyte and didn’t know what to expect. In my seething pain, I reached out to Consuelo and was disappointed to find her not in her office. I was at work and having trouble moving! Consuelo changed her plans for me and came in to her Lower Manhattan practice space to attend to me in my distress.

She began our session with an overview of my general health and asked several questions to get a deeper understanding of my stress, diet, etc. She looked at my tongue and took notes. She explained about the Chinese practice, but spoke to my lay-person’s level of understanding and didn’t dwell on it. Her focus was clearly on me, my pain, what she could do to relieve it and what I could do on my own to facilitate my recovery.

The “needling” comes after a calming yet invigorating massage. I was somewhat apprehensive of the needles at the first session, but Consuelo coached me through a breathing technique that helped a lot. She was respectful of my limitations, and avoided areas (like my feet) that just felt too vulnerable to be needled. But I was surprised at the areas that I could tolerate under her calming approach, like my head, and my injured back area.

I also liked that she shared nutrition tips and care ideas for pain relief.

I found Consuelo to be patient, thorough, attentive to my comfort on the table, and attentive to details of my progress. I felt like we were a team, working together on my relief.

Consuelo has a positive, healing vibe but is also grounded and intelligent and curious. She has a clean and comfortable practice space in the historic Woolworth building

And my injury? I found much relief after a few sessions. I’m much more mobile, and the pain has decreased significantly since I began seeing Consuelo.”

“I began working with Consuelo in the early phase of spinal surgery recovery and we have continued to work together as I have become increasingly pain-free, strong, and have regained full mobility. Consuelo’s gentle treatments eased pain, reduced discomfort and swelling, and aided sleep and rest. Some weeks following surgery, I began transitioning to less potent prescription pain medication, then moved to over-the-counter and finally to very little and no pain medication. During these transitions, it is common to experience disruption in sleep, which can have a negative impact on healing. “I suffered back and neck injuries and nerve damage from an automobile accident.
